Description

OH's snake, Anubis :) She's a water python, probably around a year old.

Common Name: Water Python
Scientific Name: Liasis fuscus
General characteristics: Non-Venomous. Iridescent blackish-brown on the back and below the tail and yellow on the belly and lower sides. It is predominantly nocturnal. Up to 3 metres in length. They mate from June to September and females lay a clutch of 6 - 23 parchment-shelled eggs September to November. The female coils around them to incubate and protect them, shivering to increase their body temperature on cool days. 10 - 11 weeks later the eggs hatch. Hatchlings are around 42 cm in length and become sexually mature in their second year.
Diet: Mammals, birds, particularly water birds, reptiles and birds' eggs and young freshwater crocodiles.
Habitat: The water python is a Northern Australian species.
Status: Secure

I like this one so much better than the other photo of this same snake.

There's a wonderful surprise element when opening this photo because the snake is almost hidden within the branch.

But I never would have found you but for following what I considered a bad critique of this one. [link] I thought that photo wasn't very good and I was very surprised a reviewer I admired had rated it so highly. It was a step back for me to not put others on too high a pedestal.

PS. When I add one cent plus one cent it's never worth more than two cents, the same as my opinions.
